Hi Guys
More progress on the Dining Room today. I got the the final two walls panelled and painted and some of the pictures up, I'm particularly fond of this portrait by Gainsborough.
The picture below is the window side of the room, this will eventually have curtains (Pretty Pleeter at the ready, Ray & John!).
You can see the pillars here which, after wondering about how to paint a marble effect, I have bought marble effect paper in a warm yellow. Hopefully it will work out!?!?
And finally this picture gives you an idea of where the top of the arch will be across the middle of the room. I'm not sure if I'll lower the ceiling on this side of the pillars to create more height and space the other side. Who knows - certainly not me LOL! Oh, ignore the brown tape across the bottom, it's hold the wall on till it drys.
On the next floor there will be a Library and Drawing Room. The rooms will have split access with the Library will be accessed from the left hand side and Drawing Room from the front, with a single opening panel (if that makes sense?). What I'm trying to do is stick to the floor plan but create more interest, this will also allow me to have views through from one room to the other.
Have a great week All and happy mini-ing...

Hello Simon,
ReplyDeleteI am saying it all again........this is a beautiful design that is showcasing your wonderful talent.
I love the coulour your chose for the paneled walls. Also the marble paper should work perfectly for the columns since you can easily hide the seam. Arch is a great idea. My unsolicited opinion, keep the ceiling at the same height on both sides. The "Gainsborough" is exquisite! Who's frame if you don't mind my asking? You are making quick work of this space and I can't wait to see the Library and Drawing Rooms.
Thanks for the pretty pleater nod :-D
Some folks think that the pleater makes the draperies too perfect.....what they miss is that miniature drapery success lies in the installation. The pleats don't have to be instaled perfectly straight for a "Real" appearance. You will do a spectacular job of them. Ok..enough from me
Warm regard and hug from Ray
Dear Ray
DeleteThanks for the advise, I have not decided to keeo the height the same but also raise the collumns up about 1.5 inches to increase the view beyond. otherwise it was too low and you had to crouch to see the dining room!
I've also decided to paint the pillars in a grey white colour that tones perfectly with the walls (I think anyway LOL).
hugs
Simon
Hello, I've seen the pics of your blog and have to say I'm turning a fan of your house. This is the style that I actually love for the dollhouses. Congratulations, it's wonderful!
ReplyDeleteHi Simon,
ReplyDeleteJust read both of your latest posts together, what a great job you have done already! Working from the inside outwards is unusual, but it's a great idea, as most house construction is basically boxes within a box, and you can work on the walls etc more easily that way too.
You have done a great job on the panelling, and I like the colour too (Farrow and Ball?) The Gainsborough looks perfect, and who could forget that stunning fireplace!
I would agree with Ray above, keep the ceiling the same height both at the front and back. Is the arch going to, well, arch, or will it go straight across like the beam in the picture? Raising the columns is a good idea, you'll see more of the room behind that way.
Looking forward to seeing more soon!
hugs
Andy xx
Me encanta como está quedando. La habitación y los cuadros son preciosos, me encantará verla acabada. Besos y feliz domingo

Simon, this gets better and better! I LOVE, LOVE LOVE the artwork in this room! Not to mention your paneling is Divine.... and the Fireplace is Perfection!!! What will go over the fireplace... a Mirror? or more Art?? I can't wait to see more!
ReplyDeleteHi Honey
DeleteI have put a large picture above the fireplace, an old favourite of mine, and I think it looks pretty good - you'll see it in the next Post.
thanks for the lovely comment x
Hi, Simon! I love your paneling. It looks awesome and I wish had the same luck with mine. LOVE the color, too. I agree with Ray about the Pretty Pleater --it can be your best friend or your enemy, depending on how you use it. I had a marvelous time with it and hope to post about it soon but blah, blah, blah there's never enough time, it seems! You on the other hand seem so happy and that's what we like to see! Great job!!!

Hey Buddy
DeleteIm glad you like the colour, it works so well now I have finished the "marble" collumns and added more pictures etc. I'm going to order my pleater in a couple of days and am a wee bit apprehensive about it. I am sure I will find sollace in your post on the subject ;-)
Yes, all happy here at last and hoping to continue to be so...

Hi Simon,
ReplyDeleteI love the colour you've chose, cool and elegant. Your panelling is fantastic - do you do it straight on to the walls, or on to card that you then mount? Am contemplating panelling, and I'd like to get the lines as perfectly straight as your...

Hi Jonquil
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comment. I am finding it easier on this project to work from the inside to the out side! By that I mean I'm working on the rooms first and then applying the external walls. It is really useful as you can access all the internal walls seperately. I think Ray (Whiteledge Burgess)and John (at Merriman Park)build their walls on mount board or something and then fix these after completion. Either way, it will really help your straight lines if you are able to do your pannelling out side of the room rather than trying to reach inside it.
Good luck...

Hi Simon! It is always a joy to see what you are doing. The paneling looks great, I love the grey-green colour!
ReplyDeleteI'm working the same way as you are, from the inside to the outside. I also use mount board to work on which will eventually be stuck to the final walls. It is so much easier to work this way!
The pictures look beautiful in the room.
Hi Josje
DeleteI hope you are well. Do you find your mount board bends if you put wallpaper on, or stick anything on it for that matter? I find it bends once it has dried and I'm always a bit nervouse about trying it. Any tips?

Wow your house looks amazing! so calm and relaxed looking and such attention to detail so different to mine lol it looks like something from a (real house) magazine! :-)
ReplyDeleteHey Paula
DeleteThanks for your lovely comment x
Hi Si,
ReplyDeleteIt's always so great to see you back in action! You have done a great job on the panelling and i just love the colour, the floors look great too. The paintings look perfect especially on that colour and there's nothing like a bit of Gainsborough to glam up the walls!
